In this article, we will be comparing the stock prices of Facebook and Snap Inc. (Snapchat's parent company).

We will also provide a visual outline of Facebook and Snapchat's share prices at the same moments in each company's history as being publicly traded on the stock market.

What the numbers say:

Interestingly enough, Facebook's stock prices during it's first 14 months as a publicly traded company looks very similar to Snap Inc's graph (see below).

What to understand:

Snap Inc. is still in the very early stages of being a public company. It's certainly too early to write the company off as a flop... yet.

How Snap compares:

It took Facebook 5 years to finally turn a profit after the company was started.

Even Twitter's first time to ever turn a profit was only a few months ago.. on February 2018. It took Twitter 12 years to turn a profit since it was started.

Don't forget:

Snapchat was started in July of 2011.


Comparing Facebook and Snapchat's IPO and 1 year Share prices

Date Snap Inc. went public (Snapchat's IPO date):

  • Snap Inc. took it's company public on March 2, 2017.

Opening price of Snap's stock shares:

  • Snap Inc's stock first opened at $17 a share when the company went public.

Snap's stock price after the first year and 2 months as being a publicly traded company:

  • Snap Inc's stock price was $14.13 after the company's first year and 2 months going public.


Date Facebook went public (Facebook's IPO date):

  • Facebook held its initial public offering (IPO) on May 18, 2012.

Opening price of Facebook's stock shares:

  • Facebook opened at $38.22 per share when the company first went public.

Facebook's stock price after the first year and 2 months as being a publicly traded company:

  • Facebook's stock price was $26.18 after the company's first year and 2 months going public.

The time for everyone to grab their pitchforks for Snap certainly could come one day.. but as of right now, it's still too early.
